Syn-free Pizza | Low Syn Life

Syn-free Pizza Low Syn Life: "This isn't so much a recipe as an idea that you can adapt and customise to your own tastes. As it uses both an HEA and HEB you'll probably find it easiest to fit this in on either a Green or Original day.
Serves 1
Syn-free + 1 HEA + 1 HEB
Ingredients:
57g wholemeal pitta bread (HEB)
1 clove garlic, cut in half (optional)
4 tablespoons passata with herbs
57g reduced fat mozzarella, or 42g mozzarella/reduced fat cheddar, grated (HEA)
Your choice of toppings e.g. ham, tomato, onion, tuna, sweetcorn, etc. (remember to count syns for any that aren't free)
Method:
Heat the oven to 220C.
Split the pitta bread into two halves, place on a baking tray and bake in the oven for 2-3 minutes to toast slightly
Rub the cut side of the garlic clove over the pitta bread bases
Spread the passata over the bread, add your toppings and the cheese
Bake in the oven for 10 minutes until the cheese is golden
My topping in the picture above: tuna, onion, tomato, capers, anchovies (0.5 syns for 28g on Original)"

Pork, Apple and Sage Burgers Low Syn Life: "4.5 syns for the whole recipe on Extra Easy and Original
Ingredients
500g lean pork mince (less than 6% fat) (2.5 syns)
1 egg
112g grated apple (2 syns when cooked)
1 tablespoon fresh sage leaves, chopped
salt and pepper
Method
Mix all the ingredients together and shape into 6 burgers. Grill for a few minutes on each side until lightly browned and cooked through."

Spiced Tea Loaf Low Syn Life: "The whole cake is 9 syns on all plans, or you can have it as a Healthy Extra B choice plus 4 syns (5 Scan Bran = HEB). Alternatively it would slice nicely into 9 pieces to make 1 syn per portion. A single slice would probably fill you up more than an Alpen Light bar!
Ingredients
5 Scan Bran
a large mugful of strong tea (I use 2 tea bags to make it)
28g dried mixed fruit (4 syns)
2 eggs, beaten
1/2 teaspoon baking powder (0.25 syns - I don't bother to count it's so small)
5 tablespoons sweetener
2 tablespoons mixed spice
Method
Soak the Scan Bran and dried fruit in the tea until soft and mush it up
Add the remaining ingredients and mix
Pour into a microwaveable container (I use a silicone loaf tin) and microwave on high for 6-7 minutes"

1 lemon, juiced

3 tablespoons dark brown soft sugar

4 tablespoons white wine vinegar

4 tablespoons water

675g (1 1/2 lb) dried figs

1 lemon, sliced

12 chicken thighs

salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste

Preparation method
1. Preheat oven to 200 C / Gas mark 6.

2. In a small bowl, combine lemon juice, brown sugar, vinegar and water; set aside.

3. Place figs and lemon slices in the bottom of a large baking dish. Arrange chicken thighs on top, then pour lemon and vinegar mixture over chicken. Finally, sprinkle with salt and pepper to taste. Bake in preheated oven for 40 to 50 minutes, or until chicken is done and juices run clear. Baste frequently while roasting (turn figs if they begin to brown).

4. With a slotted spoon, remove chicken, figs and lemon slices from baking dish and place on a warm platter. Skim fat from cooking juices, then pour over chicken as sauce. Garnish with fresh parsley and serve."

My trip to UK & visit to Crafts for Christmas at the NEC did nothing at all my love of housework!!!

Having seen somebody knitting on very over sized needles, I decided it was time to give up housework & flying the skies. I have had the ends of my brooms aero dynamically sharpened, rounded and sanded.. (thank you bruv!!).

Success casting on with 2'' strip of fabric..

Now to knit a magic carpet I hope and perhaps fly into the new year with new energy!!

Tomorrow maybe I will fly!!

That is if I do not do too much damage with these long long needles...

Now to spend an evening doing was I was meant to be doing while I was playing

This year is flying fast, it seemed like yesterday I posted. After having made a pledge to finish all the projects I have started before starting anything new back at the end of last year, I still find myself with a pile of UFO's.... Many of which I have started since I made the pledge.. Ha Ho rules are made to be broken!!

One of the few creative embroidery projects I have finished used the technique of painting with plaster onto Calico.. A wash of silk paint was used for the background and then an embellishment of machine and hand embroidery was added.
The picture was inspired by the often seen pithvier, that was used in origanally Cyprus to store olives, I believe.
Quite a result from getting Plastered!!!

UFO's Tablemats

The first of the UFO's is these tablemats made for Charlene to match her wall hangings that I made for at Christmas. They seemed to take for ages mainly because I did them "my way" & did the plan & cut the lengths first. I have laid them out and photographed them to show how this technique of working log cabin blocks around diamonds & triangles can produce a wonderful tumbling dice effect for a quilt. Hopefully Charlene will lay the mats upside down when Katie is around as I thought it would hide evidence of spilt red wine.. Not that Katie is into wine yet, but could easily get the blame!!

Slowly, Slowly, it's summer!!

I thought I had been bitten by the cigar cigar mode - ( cigar cigar being greek for slowly slowly) but no on reflect the only slowness I have been suffering from is posting on this blog..

Although very hot, all my workshops are surviving in the cool of the studio. Mattie bags, hats, patchwork jackets, sample quilts are all some of the projects that are being worked on. Beautiful projects are being created that are a credit to my customers & friends.. We will soon be announcing celebration our 2nd year in business & our first year here in Giolou. Two enjoyable (messy) days where had in July playing with dyes & paints creating bespoke fabric with screening printing and procion dye techniques.

I personally have challanged myself to working through some of the many UFO's that are hiding around here!! I also have to admit being side tracked as I easily am into starting new projects.

If that is not enough in these soaring temperatures, along with the help of Luke, we have now opened ou EBay store Zippysdedodah and are daily adding to the inventory. Bargain can be found on many Papercraft supplies as we try to streamline the brick & mortar shop here towards ixed media & fabric crafts.

Finally Zippysdedodah on Etsy also is now selling many of our hand made items - there is only so many bags a girl needs!!!

Another UFO - I am stiching various fibres onto hand made paper printed with a negative of the Metochi Tavern in Polemi Cyprus one of my favourite taverns, I have used Stewart Gill paints to embellish the print before stitching.

Rubber mat bag

This is one of my favourite bags I have made, it made by layering hessian, painted rubber matting or other mesh material then a layer of fabric paper made using merino wool tops. the three layers are cut into the pattern of the finished bag and then stitched together with matching fibres and a variety of hand embroidery stitches.

To finish the bag is made up and lined. Plastic Tubing covered in fibre makes up the handles. Lastly a few beads to embellish and complete the bag.

This bag was such fun to make and I have recieved so many nice comments, I have started two more.. The above picture show the felted merino wool on top of the painted rubber matting/mesh.

Well, here is what happened!!!

The fushsa pink is silk fibres.

The dark purple Cotton flannel & 100% cotton.
The lighter purple on the left is cotton velvet.
The lighter pink in the centre is merino woll tops felted into acrylic felt.
As expected the handmade paper on the left side took the dye but disintegrated

Again the Fushia is a variety of felted silk fibres and lastly the whole wall hanging. I think I liked it when it woz white

This is a college of photos taken of a recently made wall hanging.
I used as many different white/natural coloured materials I could find to create a quilted hanging the idea being to dye the completed wall hanging and see the different effects of the procion dye on different materials.

So here we go, the new years resolution to keep this blog upto date has taken a few days to come to fruition.
The holiday seems to have drifted on a long time this year,in fact almost 3 weeks. Our holiday started when charlene arrived on the 18th of December and only finished today, the day after the Epiphany. ( Epiphany is another bank holiday in Cyprus).
Anyway it was back in the studio today with a thirst to refind the creative juices, really I should have dug out some of the UFO's as I had promised myself but the big bag of goodies brought on Monday in Nicosia was far more apealing, so I started where I had left of before the holiday - exploring Kaleidoscope quilts.Black & white Pomegranites was the theme of the day, but hey ho how when cut into equilaterial triangles and sewn back together in hexagons the pomegranites soon resemble those that were left on the tree and burst as the summer came to an end
I used the whole cloth for the backing that allowed me to freemotion quilt around the pomegranites. Just a few more hand stitches in the light tomorrow and I will have my first wall hanging to sell on Etsy.

Bursting Chaotic Pomegranites is the third Kaleidoscope quilt I have made, the first used a halloween fabric to create Crazy Cats, Frogs & Snails.

Inspired and fascinated by this new technique I just had to make Katie a Chaotic Cat floor quilt.

Katie's dress was made using silk Taffetia & Cotton velvet with a black lace trim made using freemotion machine embroidery on soluble fllm.

It was very special to have Katie to stay along with her mummy & Daddy for her first Christmas.

Now I can let you see what else I was upto in December.

Applique & beaded Wall hangings for Matt and Charlene made to co-ordinate with their wall paper.

I also completed my first large quilt a Comfort quilt for Ella ( my mother in Law). Picture coming soon

Apologise to any one who visits my blog regularly for the lack of postings again.Keeping this blog up to date is just one of my many new year resolutions.

The last month has seen me over working the sewing machine making last minute presents, obviously can't tell you any more until boxing day!!

Charlene, Matt and Katie arrive to day to spend Christmas here in Cyprus, so I be back to post later when the sewing toys are stashed away - Katie is just starting get mobile so I guess I better go on a pin hunt.

As I mentioned the fabric I dyed last week did not really
resemble the orange groves, but more like the rhubarb patch.. So my muse & I got to work..

The rhubarb patch has proved very fruit full for some of the online challanges I had on the to do list.

I have been working on a fruity flat doll theme - so Rhu - Barbie had to be the next creation.

Her leafy hair is Tyvek painted with Stewart Gill Alchemy paints - Yum.. got carried away and painted the lace petticoat for her as well. A few rows of machine embroidery, a splash of crystal glitter paint , a clay face, a string of beads and she and her sister are ready to fly the nest..

Could be a better picture of this Rhubarb Pie. BUT I have no excuse!
When I was making the log cabin blocks for what the fabric was originally intended - I again got carried away (or was it that muse) and tried making some smaller versions. The pieces resembed bits of rhubarb stewed together. So ha ho lets cut it so it looks like a piece of pie and add a crust made from painted and embellished hearty clay, we nearly have a postcard. Paint on some rhubarb that was not used, add a bit of left over Tyvek for the leaves.. Oh dear! the Crystal glitter was also left out... Sugar Ahhh, that will make the pie taste good.. Wala! we have very nearly a pie in the sky.. Watch out for low flying pie leaving Cyprus tomorrow!!

Still some left fabric.. Perfect for a Granny Smith Apple for the Artwemail Alphabet swop.. I made a few extra's.. by doing a letter a month we will have a full set by the time Katie is two. Watch out for the postman Katie, Nanny has sent you your first FAP - Tell Mummy too look after them. Of course will have a set in Cyprus for when you come to stay. The message of peace is sent with these wisdom tree pages that will soon leave Cyprus too new homes soon. Merino wool is felted onto baby wipes that have been used to mop up left over paint & dye. The leaves have been embellised with shrink plastic messages that include a dove bearing an olive twig . The finishing touches include some real leaves that I laminated, the leaves came from a tree in the garden that is full of olives very nearly to pick, if the Magpies do not get there first.

As I promised myself on Saturday morning.. I have been foillowing my dreams.

Out came the embellisher - I replaced all 4 needles that I had broke last time it came out - I guess it must have chucked in naughty corner for not behaving the last couple of months. I managed to felt some olive leaves with out breaking any needles. Wow success perhaps I will play with this toy again soon. The leaves are for a felted leaf book exchange, they need to carry a message so now I need to embellish them now.
The leaves were felted using baby wipes that have been used to mop up after painting as a base and merino wool tops.

Dying i think is addictive - out came the scarlet,lemon & turquoise - I wanted to make a lopped sided log cabin quilt - the pattern for which I found on IQF. My aim was to produce colours that reflected an orange grove - they remind me more of rhubarb & custard but it is my first time at mixing dyes.

Mission accomplished nearly - its not like me to follow instructions but this time it worked - the pieceing is not half as wonky as my last attempt.

and I have enough left overs to make some fruit pie postcards for a FAP trade...

I also took the Art techniques lesson 6 and painted (or tried too) a monochrome view from our balcony.. It just needs the finishing touches - I choose purple because I painted it just as the sun was coming up, the mood was dusky although down in the valley (too the left) I could see the grapes being picked.

Finally my fat book pages are coming along - I now have 60 glue gun images of Cyprus only 60 more to go...

Yesterday was a very grey day (although the sky was blue). A day I confirmed to myself that life is what I make it.
I have to fall a sleep with a mind full of Imagination & Dreams – A to do List!!

I made a mistake of turning the switch off on Friday evening….I took a step back and out of control and hoped someone else and their muse would have the dreams and inspirations to see my aspiration to do something wild, maybe wacky and exciting (after all it was a bank holiday*)

What a mistake – I awoke with no vision, no dreams, No to do list!!
Nothing happened…all day I spent doing nothing but reflecting…
It’s too late for IF ONLY…

So today it’s up, up and away… My muse is with me we have our dreams, imagination and our To do list.. We will stay in control and Live on, ….

Life is not easy I have learnt… always changing and challenging us… changes and challenges that have to be dealt with (leapt over) to ensure we survive and can continue to dream & create. Life is not Fair but if you stay in control the tunnel is not so dark and soon there will be light and dreams at the end..

I will not ponder anymore… Decisions will be made timely and I will move on.. I will Survive..

Some may say that these are very self centred thoughts.

Having had many stresses with the PC I eventually managed to collage this card for a friends who celebrates his birthday today..

We are pet sitting again this time for a pair of love birds. We gave Keith these birds for his big birthday earlier this year, wow how do birds make so much mess. Today I decided to let them get some fresh air by hanging them from the gazebo..

This has been the first week in Giolou with our home & shop, studio all under one roof.. With the children away i have been able to get most things into place and find time to get really into playing.. We have even managed to get the PC working on line again and have transferred the shop telephone number up here... amazing... things do not usually happenen that easily here.

As I have mentioned before we now have to get our post from a some what oldy worldly shop in the Village, or such was the case until I went to see what surprises were in store this week. The post had all gone walk abouts... Two days later I found out it is now delivered to the muktars (mayors) office.. What a delight to find the latest copy of Stitch.. Sad there was no art mail but I have taken a little bit of a break whilst moving. But, now I am back with avengence ....

For the first time this week I have tried my hand at dying, as usual I dived in at the deep end with a graduation project using the cup/ glass technique. The results were Ok but not as dramatic as I would have liked.. As usual I could not waste anything - so I painted the left over dye onto a scrap of cotton with a foam brush before adding some purple spray paint.. Hey Presto within an hour I had a piece of fabric dyed, rinsed and dryed ready for backgound to the bird house block for My IQF home Sweet Home quilt... It is so hot in Cyprus at the moment that every thing drys so quickly..

Today is the day Luke turns 14, he is in the Uk, so unfortuantly we will not be celebrating with him..We hope he has a very happy day. As I previously mentiom the creative juices flowed on the day I decided to make him a card, I hope he recieved it in time. As you can see Luke has found an alternative use for my fabric bowls... all good chefs wear hats..

Can't wait for the king of the BBQ to come home to Cyprus,, hopefully he will be ready to train to use the smoker as well... food is so much nicer when someone else cooks it especislly when that someone is your son.

What a proactive morning, the early morning sun must have been my fuel. Why do weeds grow when everything else struggles at this time of year. I managed to pull quite a few out before the sun got to hot, so hopefully the seeds that I planted will take their place in the plant kingdom.

Day’s chores well out of the way by 9 o’clock, (yes, it’s Wednesday & my day off!!). Now it’s time to play….

With inspiration from reading Creative Embellishments by Sherrill Kahn; Out came the stash of funky foam bits, left from kids group when they insist each time on cutting only out of the middle of a sheet, also I armed myself with a few knitting needle, the heat gun, a couple of deep stamps (by Sarah Lawrence – stocked at Zippys) and my new Stewart Gill Byzantia paints (also now in stock in the shop)..

Wow :- What fun I had for a couple of hours creating beads, buttons & pendants – the new paints were cool and a breeze to use…

I can’t wait till they dry … What will become of them…

It's Hot...

Where does the time go... I seem so busy doing nothing prehaps the heat & high humitity here in Cyprus at the moment.

It was very hectic at the start of the month with moving house, having my brother staying in Cyprus and looking after our friends wonderful dog Nina who was a pleasure to have around.

We eventually managed to move everything from Polemi. The new house in Giolou is great so much space, but hey hoy we seem to be filling it up very quickly and we still have all the stuff from the shop to move yet. I can't wait now to have everything in one place and start to manage my time better.

The new smoking oven we had shipped from the Uk is fab, we have entertained friends and family several times in the last couple of weeks. So far The large joint of pork has been the best very smoky mesquite flavour. The Sea beam was a close second, both stayed extremely moist.. Now to start marketing it, I'm sure people will be smitten by the delicious smoked flavour produced.

Over the last couple of weeks creating has taken a little bit of a back seat, however I have managed two more patchwork blocks both of which I found quite time consuming and thus will not making a large quilt using these blocks.

We seem to have quite a few birthdays at this time of year I made my brother a collaged card which pictured him as a hulky beach bum!!! In his dreams....but very appropriate as we enjoyed a great day picnicing at the beach to celebrate.

Hopefully he will send me a picture as it was one of those last minute efforts that had to be given away before I had time to take a photo.

Having tried paint by numbers!!! the ladies in the card club, are exploring parchment craft at the moment, this has encouraged me to complete quite a few cards including my first christmas card.

It is Lukes 14th birthday next week so as he is in the Uk I have already completed and posted his comical cartoon collage card.. I Will post picture later as he may peep at the blog to see what we up to in Cyprus..

I have started some flat dolls named Pomme, these are for a Yahoo group swap, as well as a collection of pink inches.

Having had a large shipment of new products for the shop I am quite daunted by what to play with first, i am going to have to plan my week better next week.

Finally we have made the move.. still the larger furniture & the cleaning to do in polemi but slowly slowly - ciga ciga we will get there.

The new house in Yiolou is great, lots of space, great views and loads of sorting out to do. Can't wait to get the studio & shop moved as well.

Lasagne our cat has moved with us .. We are keeping her for a few days, she does not know what to make of the bathroom!!

As well as moving we have also welcomed Nina our friends dog to stay while they are on holiday for a couple of weeks..

Just before the move I managed to create a couple more blocks - both variatons of Dresdens plate - not my normal colours but I love the result - must be feeling bright and cheery about the move.

Tickled pink is also now finished - I love her to bits and I think she will have to take pride of place in the dolls house i'm planning on creating....

Thought I would add a few family pics taken during the last week before we pack and move from polemi up the road to Yiolou.

As you can see we spent a lazy day in the garden.... And Amelia even posed for the camera, it is nice to see more than the back of her head!!!

And....not to be missed, you have to meet Rosie or is it Daisy a puppy found by Rafiella & Amelia.. Rafiella is Amelias friend from next door. Rafiella is looking after the puppy so why is the dog sat on the mat instead of our cat,Lasagne. - yes strange name and another story....

By the way accidently you can not only see the first large canvas that I painted but also a mirror image.

The canvas was painted on a sunny sunday afternoon a few years back in England. I found & used half an old divan frame and stretched stretched over it. It was them pained with left over metallic emullsion. The picture started of very calm with a

beautiful mill pond type reflections but from somewhere a thundery sky / sea was added. I love the picture but even I can't explain the emotions that inspired it...

I have just noticed the quilt on the back of the chair made for me a few years by my mum as a christmas wall hanging, I loved it so much it stays hung on the wall all year... but we are moving and have made a start.......

Oh dear ...our picnics on the beach look like steptoes yard on tour ..... Good job we know a beach where lot a lot of other people go... Only special friends invited...

Having got rid of many of the UFO's in my life recently, I seemed to have spent last week pottering and creating a new stash of UFO's - not planned and definantly not needed as we are about to move house in the next week.

Amelia & I got carried away using up left over paint from a workshop- some interesting faces were born.

Tickled pink is the lastest embryo to hatch, the inspiration for her existance came from the feeling felt when first seeing our little grand-daughter a few weeks ago.

This week has seen few cards added to the hand crafted retail collection . Both a sympathy & birthday parchment card plus a embroidered peel off card - new stock just has to be tested!!!

This week also show our kids group making cards and presents for fathers day. The card is magnetic and features a computor designed to be a refillable post it note holder. The top post has a squibbled fathers day message and one of the last ones has a squibbled note reminding to buy another pack of post-its.

With moving house I think Amelia's attempt will come in very useful as her dad Ray often needs an occassional little reminder.!!

The co-ordinating pressie we made was a fimo pen holder also magnetic to sit on the fridge next to the card. Bravo!!"!!

Hello June ....Good bye - April- another month gone

Another month has passed with very little blog activity, oh dear!!! However this month I do have an excuse.

Katie ( baby bean) our first grandchild was born on Sunday 18th April, she is so cute, she is our own little princess. She weighed in at 5lb 12oz - despite many hour drawling over ( and buying a few) sweet clothes for little baby girls we still had great difficulty finding a cardigan to keep her warm in the not so summery weather in England. So I set to with the knitting needles and this was the result, finished of course with a few embroidered flowers, I just hope it is not too small now. If it is I will be making a rag doll to wear it!! If it does fit perhaps mummy will allow Katie to make a debut on Nanny's blog.

I can't wait to start jounalling all the pictures..

April & my days in England when Katie was born also gave me the opportunity to finish a few other projects.. An embroidered elephant & a set of three elegant shoes ( from stitch magazine).

Silk has also been very topical in my mind during April, I have now managed to complete a Sushi bead necklace and braclet made using silk rods.

Silk exploration is very high on my to do list at the moment - so much so that last Saturday we took delivery of 30 silk worm eggs.. Today Luke ( my 13 yr old son ) has just called to tell me that 3 of them have hatched into silk worms... - he's meat to be revising but I have allowed him to take 1/2hr of to go and collect some Mulberry leaves, fortuantly the trees grow well in Cyprus.. Hopefully the worms will not need to eat them all and katie and I will be able to play " Here we go round the Mulberry bush" when she comes to visit.. Can't wait..........

Lastly Look I found away to display my silver inches so you can see both sides... Now of to find two canvases for the brown and Gold inches..

Where has the last month gone, I cannot believe that I have not made time to update this blog.

No excuses except that I have been busy trying to finish some of my huge pile of work under construction. I have been very good in keeping my promise to myself of not signing up to any new challanges until completing the ones i have commited to. I am happy to say that the task has now been completed all that is left is making the curtains and bedding etc for baby bean as time is getting on....Ooooooohhhhhhhh.

So what have I been upto.....

The Twins Fluicious have been completed as you can see that thier creation was exhausting. They needed to take a short nap before splitting up and Flu leaving for her flight to her new home in Norway. The dolls were created for a yahoo group exchange. The inspiration was taken from memories of being a hankerchief girl (selling hankerchiefs donated by parents etc for school funds) many yeas ago at the school fete. Hence the hankerchief attached to thier dresses and thier name relating to the need for a hankerchief - Flu and icious taken from delicious (referring to my memories and creations).....One of the twins with be staying here in Cyprus whilst the other has left for her new home.. I hope she will be cherished and not to cold in Oslo..Please keep in touch Fluicious...

Spaghetti Head

My head feels like it is full of over cooked spaghetti today..

It seemed a good idea to visit our local tavern "the Olive Tree" last night . Having cooked toad in the hole - No not funky frog!! but wonderful tomato & basil / pork & mustard sausages in crispy batter (Yorkshire type pud).. Two types of sausages because as usual I could not decide which of the wonderful flavours I fancied most.

But why is the spaghetti over cooked?
The answer: Cypriot hospitality - the second carafe of local wine sent to us compliments of Costa - the very friendly local bus/taxi driver ..

Time now to dry out the twiddly bits of pasta and set them dancing again - hopefully to achieve a little bit of solidarity today . Today is the last day I will be 45 ...... oooohhhh.........

Birds , Bunnies & Living cats that have died

At last I had a creative day Brighty came alive & is now ready to fly from the nest.

My hippity hoppity bunnies at last have found thier way to the tulip field that I created with expandable paint and raffia grass. This hides the little bunnies from the local hunters...

The number 9 was prevelent today ... the number that I have been dealt in the latest round of the IFQ alphabet & numbers challange.. Creating cards to represent the 9 lives of a cat is my starting post and with the top still loose on the puff paint from playing with trees & tulips - look what happened....

Playing catch Up again

Today was the day to try and catch up...
The day to.. Create the four sets of five (plus one of each to keep myself) of double inches that were due to be posted at least a week a go.. The four sets are now winging thier way to america.
Heartichokes made from baby wipes used to mop up artichoke coloured acrylic paints.. Distorted using the heat gun then made into crazy patchwork & finally embellished with a single silver heart.

Little gems

SweetCorn made from a piece of mono printed calico from a recent mixed media workshop.. The colours seemed to represent the colours seen in the ripening sweetcorn that we grew in our garden here in Cyprus last summer... The seeds are set for our next harvest - heres hoping there will be enough water for them to complete their journey. The word sweet was embossed onto the painted surface as a clue to my lateral thinking.

Pearfect Doubles, lurking with the fat quarters in the shop I found these Pear that seemed perfect to complete my sets of double inches. Silver pips were an essential to make the pears perfect.. Gold ones would have been better as there was a little bit of inspiration sneaking into to this from the old nusery rhyme.. I had a liitle nut tree, nothing would it bear but a single nutmeg and a golden pear..

Blogging has taken a back seat the last few weeks... However I have still been playing, in between spending a week in the COLD UK.

It was great to visit Charlene, don't think she would be very pleased if I posted the picture of Bean to Bee! So I will stick to my creations:-

Chocolate Birthday Postcards using Tyrek beaded inches.
Flat Doll - Feanger the Feather Angel, made using handmade silk paper.
My first fabric bowl filled with easter goodies including Flaounces recipe - now winging its way to South Africa for Easter Swap on IQF.. The recipe card was made using a baby wipe that had been used to mop up paint and then embossed and heat distorted... loads of srivelling fun!!

Silk Paper

silk paper made by layering silk in a voille screen and wetting both sides using a couple of drops of dishwashing liquid in a cup of water. Pat the excess off with a rag. Then:-
To the first piece I applied Decoart fabric medium - I had also sprinkled this piece with gold metal flakes before wetting. The result had a nice sheen and was not to stiff.
To the Second piece I applied Liquitex Gloss medium - The result was much stiffer.
To the third piece I used 50% diluted PVA glue the result was was not stiff a tall and the feather that I had added before wetting remained fluffy.

Irish Snakes

There are apparently no such creatures. The stories go that St Patrick drove all the snakes from the island. (Hence my funky yarn snakes are in the sea swimming around a map of Ireland). Driving the snakes away was probably symbolic to putting an end to the pagan practice of worshipping a serpent symbol.
This card is one of a set of six - five made to trade. I used my Huky embellisher to embellish the yarns onto felt before covering with organza that I stiched and burnt. Some of the snakes are appear to be shredding thier skins.. A shamrock was embellished just for Luck.. Happy St Patricks Day ....

It's Snowing inPolemi - No sun bathing tomorrow photo taken in our garden 9.30pm Wednesday 30th January 2008

The snow is still here in Polemi- a view from our bedroom window - you can the Metochi in the right of the picture - The Metochi is a beautiful old monestry now used as a tavern. The courtyard is fantastic in summer.

Little Hearts for my valentine sisters made for Art4Mail swap

My hearts will be delivered to my swap partners by my silly mouse “Moussilly” .

He is already with his hearts firmly attached and will leave the Island of Love when it stops snowing… Moussilly will not be flying naked as he is not an experienced flyer... The Hearts are made from napkin applied to Handmade paper, embellished with expandable paint, Twinkles, silk ribbon & Hot fix gems.
